Personalized math tutoring designed to engage, empower, and improve 📈
Engage
Students matter. At Appleseed Math, we tailor our instructional plan to the unique strengths and learning preferences of each student. In addition, we believe choice boosts motivation, so we offer different learning activities for students to choose from. Students draw on the whiteboard during guided instruction, respond to frequent checks for understanding, and get re-energized to learn with exercise breaks halfway through sessions.
Empower
Confidence is everything. At Appleseed Math, we develop students’ confidence to apply new concepts independently through rigorous scaffolded instruction, positive encouragement, and challenges. In addition, students learn time management, test-taking strategies, and receive handpicked resources to supplement learning, increase retention, and gain extra practice.
Improve
Students grow when they are adequately challenged. By identifying each student’s unique strengths and areas for growth, we tailor lessons to maximize progress and mastery. This personalized guidance, combined with regular practice and constructive feedback shared with families, helps students build a solid foundation in math skills and achieve lasting improvement.
Hello! My name is Jonny.
I have been tutoring math for 10+ years. It has never felt like work to me.
Upon graduation from Northeastern University, I was awarded the Michael Woodnick Teaching For Tomorrow Award for my commitment to education, and in a highly selective process, I was chosen to join the Teach For America Corps in Oahu, Hawaii. It was there I received my Teaching Certification and taught 6th Grade Math/Science before serving as the 7th Grade-Level Lead at Wheeler Middle School. I earned my Master of Science in Education (Secondary Math) from Johns Hopkins University.
My tutoring experience includes tutoring students at Brimmer & May School (Boston), Northeastern University (Boston), Dream Mentoring (Boston), Capitol Squash (Hartford), Trinity College (Hartford), and more. In 2024, I created Appleseed Math to provide student-centered math support to students across the country.
I enjoy traveling, sports, hiking, and spending time with my family. I look forward to getting to know your student and helping them excel in math!
